Looking forward to Oktoberfest 2011
Larger, higher and more traditional: All news about the Oktoberfest 2011.
Following the tremendous success of the historical part of the 2010 Oktoberfest, the organisers have decided to again have a "nostalgic" Oktoberfest on the southern part of Theresienwiese: Old rides, a especially traditional beer tent and the music and folklore singer tent "Zur Schönheitskönigin" ("the beauty queen"). In contrast to the free "normal" Oktoberfest, the "Oide Wiesn" does have an entrance fee of 3 Euros with children under 14 getting in free.
New rides
There are two new rides this year:
"Rio Rapidos" is a rafting ride for the whole familiy, going down rapids and turning around 360 degrees.
"Monster" is a new XXL swing: The swing goes up to 40 meters in one direction and rotates around its axis while doing so.
No smoking in the tents
Like last year, smoking is again prohibited inside the beer tents in 2011. The following tents have smoking areas - Armbrustschützenzelt
- Augustinerzelt
- Fischer-Vroni
- Hackerzelt
- Hippodrom
- Käfer's Wiesnschänke
- Ochsenbraterei
- Schottenhamel
- Weinzelt
So smokers don't have to lose their seats to go for a smoke.
Security is tantamount
Like last year, there will be a three-tiered security cordon around the festival grounds with automatised security bollards, and hidden as well as obvious security measures.
