Important safety regulations for the Oktoberfest 2018

At the Oktoberfest we want to celebrate together. But a few rules should be considered:

Backpacks, Bags and Walking Aids

  • Backpacks and large bags in general are not allowed. Please leave everything you don't necessarily need at home. The less you carry with you, the easier you will find it to move around the busy parts of Oktoberfest.
  • Bags and backpacks with a volume of more than 3 litres and/or larger than 20cm x 15cm x 10cm are not allowed to be taken into the showgrounds ('Wiesn').
  • Items which are strictly forbidden: Aerosol cans with dangerous content, acidly or staining substances. Also, objects considered a weapon are not permitted, including glass of any kind. Any items security deem a threat will be confiscated upon entry.
  • All bags and rucksacks will be checked by the security staff and will be tagged with a security check band. Personal medical devices or medication are allowed once cleared by security personnel.
  • If your luggage exceeds the maximum size you can secure them at one of the several locking stations around the Wiesn (fees apply).
  • Walking aids are generally allowed at the Oktoberfest, after being cleared by security.

Toddlers, Children and Pets

  • Due to the large amount of traffic, it is advised to make sure babies and toddlers are restrained in their pram for their own safety. Large prams are allowed, but will need to be assessed by security before being allowed through.
  • On all Saturdays and on October 3rd (German Reunion public holiday) prams are not allowed on the showgrounds at any time. On any other day, prams are allowed until 6pm every day.
  • Pets are not allowed at the Oktoberfest.

Arrival and Opening hours

  • It is best to plan your route to the Oktoberfest: We recommend using alternatives to the metro lines 4 and 5 and the metro station 'Theresienwiese' (Wiesn). For example: From the main train station (Haupt-Bahnhof) you can walk to the showgrounds. If you come from a westerly direction it is best to exit at the station 'Schwanthaler Höhe'.
  • Make use of all entries/exits around the Wiesn. There are plenty alternatives to the main entrance, which can get very busy.
  • The festival grounds open at 9am and close at 1:30am.
