Oktoberfest - ein Fest der Landeshauptstadt München

Take a taxi to Oktoberfest

How to get a taxi at the Oktoberfest

When you’re on your way to Oktoberfest you should have already planned how you are travelling onwards, to your accommodation or back home. An option is a taxi – these are either at one of the taxi stands or can be hired via telephone or an app.

Where to find a taxi

Taxi stands can be found around the Oktoberfest venue here:

  • Schwanthalerstraße south side, where it crosses Bavariaring
  • Schwanthalerstraße north side, between Sankt-Paul-Straße and Martin-Greif-Straße
  • Kaiser-Ludwig-Platz west side, between Beethovenstraße and Schubertstraße
  • Herzog-Heinrich-Straße west side, between Kaiser-Ludwig-Platz and Mozartstraße
  • Hans-Fischer-Straße, on Theresienwiese from 8 pm till 5 am

CAUTION: For safety reasons taxis are no longer allowed to wait at the main entrance to Oktoberfest.

Heightened security checks around the Oktoberfest venue

During Oktoberfest more strict security checks take place. Accordingly the municipal administration authority is particularly strict about vehicles and taxi drivers keeping the rules. Along with the condition of the vehicle and whether the necessary permissions and licenses are carried, they check whether a current taxi and taxi tariff regulations document is carried, which all customers must be able to see if desired.

The best ways to get a taxi

The checks, the high volume of traffic despite the road closures, and the enormous number of visitors can mean that sometimes no taxis can be found.

At busy times calling a taxi company is often futile because all the taxis are in use. If you still want to: The number of the main taxi office in Munich is +49 89 21610.

Alternatively it can be worth ordering a taxi via an app. To travel most comfortably and quickly, register in advance with Taxi Deutschland and enter your personal details, including means of payment. For women who are travelling home alone late at night, these providers can send you a taxi directly and with no need to be jostled in a crowd. The drivers themselves often prioritize these customers.

A service for women: Get home safe by taxi

Unfortunately there is always a need for this: Girls and women don’t feel safe travelling home from Oktoberfest. If you don’t feel safe looking for a taxi on your own, you can get help and support at the Security Point – even if there’s no concrete threat.

The IsarFunk staff are happy to help. In the Security Point female advisors stand ready with tablets to quickly order a IsarFunk taxi, which comes directly to a point above the Service Center. The police are aware and allow the taxis to pass. This guarantees you get to your taxi and your accommodation safely.
