ARD shoots historical series about the Wiesn

Rival landlord clans, the fight for licenses at the Oktoberfest and lots of intrigues between the breweries: ARD is producing a series about the Wiesn during the end of the 20th century. What we already know about the story of "Oktoberfest 1900" and when the series will be on TV.

Landlords fighting over Oktoberfest

The series "Oktoberfest 1900" is about a Franconian brewer who isn’t allowed to acquire a license fort he Wiesn, since he is a "foreigner". Therefore he uses improper means to own several plots of land at the Oktoberfest to build a huge tent. To the great displeasure of the traditional Munich breweries of course, which is why a battle for the lucrative business on the Wiesn breaks out. The series takes place in the exciting time around 1900, with elaborate historical costumes and famous actors.

Top-class cast for the Wiesn series

In front of the camera are Mišel Matičević, Francis Fulton-Smith and Martina Gedeck. "The topic is incredibly exciting, as you can see the Oktoberfest from a completely different angle," Gedeck told the German Press Agency. The team behind the camera is well-known, too: The script was written by Ronny Schalk ("Dark") and Christian Limmer ("Sau Nummer vier. Ein Niederbayernkrimi").

ARD series about the Oktoberfest will be broadcasted in 2020

The series was shot in the Czech Republic, Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia. The production, which costs more than ten million euros, will comprise six episodes, which are to be broadcast at ARD in 2020.
