Award: Regional cuisine at the Oktoberfest

Five Oktoberfest tents awarded the "Excellent Bavarian Festival Tent" prize

In addition to Weißwürscht and Hendl, the traditional Bavarian cuisine has a lot of other delicacies to offer. In order to bring them closer to the many international guests at the Oktoberfest, the ministry of agriculture and the DEHOGA Bayern honour tents, which are particularly committed to regional products.

Bavarian products in the Oktoberfest tents

Delicious "Ochsenbackerl", "Bayrisch Kraut" or "Allgäuer Kasspatzen": Some menus at the Oktoberfest almost read like a poem. Five tents, which not only cook according to traditional Bavarian recipes, but also obtain their products from the region, have now been awarded the title "Excellent Bavarian Tent" by the Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture and the Hotel and Restaurant Association DEHOGA Bayern. On Monday morning, Minister Michaela Kaniber and DEHOGA Bayern President Angela Inselkammer presented the coveted certificates to the Schottenhamel-Festhalle, the Hofbräu-Festzelt, the Festzelt "Zum Stiftl", the Wiesnstadl Fisch-Bäda and the Münchner Knödelei.

Oktoberfest: Platform for regional food products

"With this award, the landlords show their guests that they have typical regional cuisine, that they focus on quality and local products," explains Angela Inselkammer. Especially the Oktoberfest with its millions of international guests is perfectly suited to promote good Bavarian cuisine. After careful examination by a neutral commission, five tents are now allowed to call themselves "Excellent Bavarian Tent". Silja Schrank-Steinberg from the Hofbräu-Festzelt explains that with the large quantities of food sold in a Oktoberfest tent it is not easy to find regional suppliers. "But thanks to my great chef, we made it. And I'm really proud of it!"
