Playing as a band at the Oktoberfest

Applying to perform at the Oktoberfest as a musician or artist

What would the Oktoberfest be without music in the beer tents? Unimaginable! If you and your band dream of starting up a tune in one of the tents and getting the guests dancing, you can apply to the tent proprietors.

The greatest thing for many musicians: a live performance at the world's biggest folk festival.

A fanfare, a “cheers!”, beer mugs in the air – the “Musi” is playing

Swaying and singing along and dancing on the benches: the music in the beer tents gets the guests in the mood to celebrate. And the bands know how to bring the party atmosphere in the tents to boiling point and get the guests dancing on the beer benches. A unified program of music this is not. They may play the current Oktoberfest hits which the guests can all sing along to. But the bands need to have the classics in their repertoire too. It’s only when “Sierra Madre”, “Fürstenfeld” or “Skandal im Sperrbezirk” start up on the tuba, trumpets and trombone that the real Volksfest feeling comes alive in the tents.

How can I play in the beer tent?

A music program is only permitted in the catering establishments at Oktoberfest. On the festival grounds themselves—with the exception of the scheduled dates—there is no opportunity for music groups to perform. Bands can only apply directly to the operators of the large and small tents. Many tents have several bands on stage on the same day. So it's always worth getting in touch with the landlords.
