The 188th Munich Oktoberfest is open

O'zapft is!

At 12 noon sharp, it was once again time to say "O'zapft is!"
The world's largest folk festival opened today with the tapping of the first Maß of beer by Munich's Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter. In keeping with tradition, the first Maß went to Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder.

This is how the tapping went in the Schottenhamel Festhalle

With two strokes, Munich's Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter tapped the first keg in the Schottenhamel festival tent. The Oktoberfest hosts had previously driven to the Theresienwiese in colorfully decorated carriages. Numerous onlookers followed the festive procession with the splendid carriages of the Munich breweries and the music groups of the large Wiesn tents in bright sunshine.

The 188th Oktoberfest lasts until October 3.

Even at lunchtime, there was a huge crowd on the Oktoberfest grounds. Even in the beer gardens, there was hardly a place to sit in the summer temperatures. Compared to last year, the festival grounds were much better attended. Nevertheless, a peaceful and festive atmosphere prevailed.
