Commemorative event on the 45th anniversary of the Oktoberfest assassination
The right-wing extremist bomb assassination at the Oktoberfest in 1980 was commemorated on Friday, September 26, with a memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony by Mayor Dieter Reiter.

In honorable memory of the more than 200 victims of the assassination
The anniversary has been organized by the DGB trade union youth for over four decades and has also been supported and promoted by the City of Munich for many years. The memorial service for the more than 200 victims of the attack, twelve of whom lost their lives, took place at the memorial in front of the main entrance to the Wiesn.
From 9.30 a.m., Mayor Dieter Reiter, the youth organization of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) and Robert Höckmayr, a survivor of the attack, commemorated the right-wing extremist act. Sonia Zanotti, Vice President of the “2 Agosto 1980” association from Bologna, also spoke.
Afterwards, wreaths were laid at the main entrance to the festival grounds - the place where a bomb killed twelve people and injured more than 220 on September 26, 1980. The bomber, Gundolf Köhler, a former supporter of the right-wing extremist Wehrsportgruppe Hoffmann, was also killed.
