The City of Munich will once again be looking for a new song for Oktoberfest in 2026. The decision is now up to all music fans.

Music groups and soloists from all over Bavaria and beyond took part in the competition.

The contest “Oktoberfest Is Looking for You: A Song for the Wiesn” is open to musicians from Bavaria and neighboring regions, as well as anyone who feels a musical connection to Oktoberfest. Through new compositions or interpretations of well-known pieces, participants can give fresh expression to the spirit of the festival. The song should convey a cheerful mood, evoke positive emotions, and fit the exuberant atmosphere of the festival.

122 songs were submitted

From March 26 to April 26, a total of 122 songs were submitted. In a preliminary selection process involving Wolfgang Köbele, bandleader of the Münchner Zwietracht, and Matthias Weber, music director at Antenne Bayern, the songs were reviewed to ensure they met the contest rules. These criteria included playability, release date, and suitability for the festival tent.
A panel of Oktoberfest professionals and music experts then selected the seven songs for the public vote. Among those involved were the competition’s sponsors: Andreas Maisberger, managing director of the Munich Brewers’ Association (Verein Münchner Brauereien e.V.), and Katharina Inselkammer, representing the Munich Oktoberfest innkeepers.

All Oktoberfest fans were invited to participate!

Well then, cheers! With a little luck, you could win two liters of free beer, a Hendl (roast chicken), and a spot in the beer tent.

From June 1 through June 28 at midnight, music fans could vote online for their personal favorite song. It’s worth taking part: Among those who participate in the public vote, 20 sets of four seats—each including two beer vouchers and a chicken voucher—will be raffled off by the Munich Brewers’ Association (Verein der Münchner Brauereien e.V.).

“My heart beats faster as a musician, because once again this year, more than a hundred musicians took part in our contest, ‘A Liad für d’Wiesn.’ The quality of the songs submitted also demonstrates the potential of the regional music scene and the significance the contest has gained over the course of a year.”
