By public transport to the Wiesn and back

The best way to get to the Oktoberfest and back to your accommodation after the tent closes is by underground and S-Bahn.

Home in comfort thanks to the MVV night service

After a long day at the Oktoberfest, you can return home or to your hotel safely thanks to the night service.

All MVV subway lines run at weekends from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday until around 2 a.m., and during the week the subway runs until 1 a.m. - every 10 minutes.

Even night owls who live or sleep outside Munich are not dependent on their car: The S-Bahn lines S1 to S8 still offer one night journey each at weekends. Departures in the city center are between 2.10 a.m. and 2.40 a.m. Between Pasing and Ostbahnhof - via the main station and Marienplatz - the S-Bahn trains run every 2 to 5 minutes throughout the day. The S-Bahn trains run to the individual suburban areas every 20 minutes.

Get to the Wiesn quickly from these three S-Bahn stations

Regardless of which direction you are coming from, you can get to the Festwiese quickly by public transport via three stops. From the main station, it takes just one minute on the U4/U5 to Theresienwiese. From the centrally located Marienplatz, you can reach Goetheplatz in three minutes by subway. From there it is just a few minutes' walk to Theresienwiese.

Hackerbrücke is also served by all S-Bahn lines on the main line. The journey time from Ostbahnhof is ten minutes, from Hauptbahnhof just two minutes. From Hackerbrücke it is about a ten-minute walk to the Festwiese.

No journey without a ticket, otherwise it will be expensive

Tickets for MVV journeys (S-Bahn, U-Bahn, streetcar and bus) are available from the blue ticket machines at every stop. Payment can be made with coins and bills, Girocard, GeldKarte and occasionally also by credit card.

Please note: Streifenkarten and one-way tickets must be validated at the stamping machines before you start your journey.

Relaxed travel through Munich with the MVV and MVG apps

It's best to download the free MVV or MVG (Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft) app onto your smartphone. Here you can simply enter “Oktoberfest” as your destination, the best connection will be displayed and, after registering once, you can also buy the right and cheapest cell phone ticket directly in the app - it couldn't be more convenient! Extra fun: During Oktoberfest, the MVG app “speaks” Bavarian on request!
